The City of Port Hueneme (pronounced why-nee-me) is home to the largest commercial deepwater port between Los Angeles and San Francisco. As one of California’s fastest growing seaports, international businesses use it as their gateway for trade between North and South America, Asia, Europe and Scandinavia. Commerce is maintained by the Oxnard Harbor District, which has managed the Port since it was constructed during the 1930s. It has since created hundreds of jobs and funnels millions of dollars into Ventura County’s economy. The Port’s success is due in part to its close geographical proximity to Los Angeles and the Santa Barbara Channel, which makes it the primary support facility for the Central Coast’s offshore oil industry.

The Port is also serves as an active center for California’s commercial fishing industry. It has more than 170,000 square feet of dockside refrigerated warehouse space that serves fresh agricultural shipments and refrigerated ocean carriers. The Port also handles its share of automobiles and heavy equipment. It moves some of the world’s best luxury cars: BMW, Rolls Royce, Land Rover, Saab and Volvo.
